Replacing a rusted carport, not just adding one
Mild steel carports put up in the 1980s and 1990s rust from the bottom of the post upward, because water sits at the paving line and the original section was painted rather than galvanised. By the time the rust is visible at eye level the post wall is usually already thin at the base. KB replaces the frame in hot-dip galvanised section, which carries a zinc layer through the whole wall rather than a coat on top of it, and re-uses the existing footprint where the slab is sound.
Where only the roof has gone - shredded shade net, hail-dented sheeting, lifted flashing - the frame is often still good and the job is a carport repair rather than a replacement. KB quotes both so the comparison is on paper before anything is taken down.
The freehold advantage: real footings
On an owned stand there is no communal paving to protect, so posts can be set in cast concrete footings roughly 400mm deep rather than bolted to a surface. A cast footing resists uplift better in a Highveld thunderstorm, and it is the reason a wider span can be carried on the same section size. It also means an older narrow driveway can be widened at the same time the carport goes up.

Bands are supplied-and-installed in galvanised steel with IBR sheeting. On a replacement the figure turns on what can be re-used: a sound existing slab and footprint keep it at the bottom of the band, while stripping and removing a rusted frame and casting new footings adds to it. My old carport has rusted through at the posts. Repair or replace?
Replace the frame. Rust at the base of a post means the wall is already thin where the load is highest, and welding a plate over it does not restore the section. A roof that has gone over a sound galvanised frame is a repair, not a replacement.
